What is a Facial Fat Transfer?

A facial fat transfer, or a fat transfer to face, is a facial contouring technique that uses unwanted body fat to enhance facial volume. Also known as fat grafting, the fat transfer procedure involves the use of liposuction to collect unwanted fat from another area of the body. The benefit of this is that a patient can simultaneously enhance the contours of another area while increasing facial volume. Fat transfers also produce permanent results, unlike dermal fillers and injectables. Facial fat transfers can be performed to enhance the following areas:

  • Temples
  • Eyelids
  • Cheeks
  • Nasolabial Folds
  • Lips
  • Chin
  • Jawline

How Much Does a Facial Fat Transfer Cost?

The cost of a facial fat transfer can vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to produce your desired results. During your consultation, Dr. Layton will be able to provide you with a treatment plan that matches your specific needs. At this point, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of your treatment. We also offer financing services to help make this and other treatments more affordable.

What is the Facial Fat Transfer Treatment Like?

The facial fat transfer procedure can be performed in-office under local anesthesia. The first step of a fat transfer procedure is collecting unwanted fat from the body. Patients typically choose to harvest fat from the stomach, legs, buttocks, or similar areas. Once the fat is collected, it is purified to prepare it for injection. Then, the fat is injected into the desired areas of the face to enhance facial volume.

How is Recovery After a Facial Fat Transfer?

After a facial fat transfer, there may be some initial swelling or bruising. However, these effects usually fade within a few days or weeks. Once fat is injected into the face, the body must adapt and provide blood supply to the transplanted fat cells. If this does not happen, the injected fat cells will die and they will be flushed from the body. With most fat transfer procedures, not all of the fat survives the transfer. This is expected, and we typically inject extra fat to compensate for this loss. As a result, you may notice that your results are a little more exaggerated than expected. Over the following weeks, the fat will settle and you will achieve your desired results. In most cases, patients will need two or three sessions to achieve optimal results.
