Differences Between Facelifts and Mini Facelifts

Differences Between Facelifts and Mini Facelifts

As you age, you might notice physical changes in your face, such as sagging skin, deep lines, and wrinkles. Aging causes the skin to deteriorate and lose its elasticity, which could cause you stress, increased self-consciousness, or self-esteem issues. Fortunately, there are options available to you.

If you are unhappy with your skin, Dr. Layton could perform a facelift or mini facelift. Although facial products are available, these procedures are the best options for restoring your facial definition and youthful appearance. Here at Layton Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we can help you address age-related cosmetic issues by offering facelifts and mini facelifts and education on the difference between a facelift and a mini facelift. Types of Facelifts

A facelift – or a rhytidectomy – is a cosmetic surgical procedure that restores a person’s youthful facial appearance. The process differs from a mini facelift because it involves aggressive removal of excess skin and the lifting of sagging facial tissues on the jaw, chin, and neck.

Mini Facelift

Although a mini facelift also restores a youthful facial appearance, it is a less-invasive facelift procedure than a complete facelift. A mini facelift focuses on a few sections of the face, such as the neck and jawline, providing subtle results.

What is the Difference between a Facelift and a Mini Facelift?

Aside from procedure processes, facelifts and mini facelifts have many other differences, including:

Ideal Surgery Candidates

Getting a facelift makes you appear 15 years younger, ideal for people over 50 years old. However, a mini facelift is suitable for people in their late thirties or forties who want a quick procedure with limited downtime.

Cost

Because they are less complicated, mini facelifts are cheaper. At Layton Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, a complete facelift costs between $13,900 and $14,800. The price increases with the number of treatments and the intensity of the results you desire from the procedure. However, we also offer mini facelifts that cost between $8,800 and $9,000. Similarly, the price depends on the number of treatments and desired results.

Procedures

Although you receive general anesthesia and incisions around the ears and hairline for both facelifts and mini facelifts, they use different procedures. A facelift involves intensive removal of skin or fat from sections of the face, including the neck, cheek, jaw, and chin. These facelifts also require Dr. Layton to make deep incisions to remove more skin and fat.

During mini facelifts, Dr. Layton creates a short incision, which is half the size of standard facelift incisions. He also uses fewer incisions and tightens the muscle layer instead of cutting through it, reducing swelling and bleeding.

Recovery Period

Facelifts require a more extended recovery period than mini facelifts. After receiving a standard facelift, you could spend the night at the hospital or a full day sleeping at home. Dr. Layton may also require you to avoid heavy work and unnecessary movement for 72 hours, inspect the incisions a week after the surgery, and wear a facial compression wrap throughout the first two weeks. Although swelling reduces throughout the first month, some unnoticeable swelling might persist for up to a year.

On the other hand, mini facelifts only require you to wear a facial compression wrap for 24 hours after surgery. You will recover fully in one month or less with minimal scars and swelling.

Potential Side Effects

You might experience a few side effects from both procedures. For example, following facelifts surgeries, bleeding, blood clots, swelling, and pain are potential symptoms. However, mini facelifts have few symptoms, such as minimal scarring and swelling.

A complete facelift makes you appear 15 years younger by removing wrinkles, sagging skin, and visible lines. However, if you desire a more subtle approach to wrinkles and sagging skin, consider the mini-facelift and its non-invasive procedures. It provides a more natural-looking skin rejuvenation with a short post-operative recovery.

You could remove visible signs of aging and regain a youthful appearance by getting a facelift or mini facelift at Layton Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. We have a team of professional plastic surgeons committed to helping you look your best with quick and effective procedures.
